Dr. Shannon Zaitsoff, R. Psych.

Background

Dr. Zaitsoff (she/her) completed her Ph.D. at the University of Windsor in Windsor, Ontario.   She completed her clinical internship at the University of Chicago Medical School and her postdoctoral training at Yale University.  In addition to her practice at Dr. Sharon Arnold and Associates, she is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at Simon Fraser University (SFU).  Dr. Zaitsoff’s research focuses on the prevention and treatment of eating and weight disorders.  She has several peer-reviewed publications in international journals including the International Journal of Eating Disorders.

Areas of Speciality

Dr. Zaitsoff has specialized training in interventions for individuals with eating disorders and their families.  She provides treatments for children, adolescents, and adults.  Dr. Zaitsoff was trained to provide family-based treatment (FBT, sometimes referred to as the Maudsley Approach) for individuals with eating disorders by Dr. Daniel Le Grange at the University of Chicago.  She also offers cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) and motivational interviewing (MI) depending on the needs of the client.  She believes parents/caregivers play a central role in supporting their child or adolescent in recovery and when possible actively includes them in interventions.

  

Dr. Zaitsoff is a member of several professional organizations, the Canadian Psychological Association. She is registered with the College of Psychologists of British Columbia (Registrant #1990).
