Area of Specialty

Dr. Owens specializes in treating children and adolescents experiencing difficulties related to anxiety, emotion dysregulation, and self-harm or suicidal thoughts/behaviours. More broadly, she provides therapy to children, adolescents, and adults seeking support for difficulties with mood (e.g., depression, anger management), anxiety (e.g., generalized anxiety, selective mutism, panic attacks, social anxiety, phobias), obsessive-compulsive disorder, and chronic pain.

Dr. Owens strives to create a comfortable and fun-filled environment, incorporating each individual’s strengths and interests into therapy. Her approach integrates aspects of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), along with other mindfulness and acceptance-based approaches. As Dr. Owens is passionate about empowering caregivers to be skillful and confident in their parenting, she incorporates attachment principles into her work. Caregiver-focused work may include parent-skills coaching, integrating caregivers into their child’s treatment, or individual work with caregivers seeking their own mental health support.

Dr. Owens also provides psychoeducational and psychodiagnostic assessments for children, adolescents, and adults. These assessments can include examining learning differences, mental health problems, ADHD, autism, executive functioning, and more.
