My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.

What is Therapy?

Therapy is a process where an individual, couple, or family meets with a therapist to work on personal change or other goals. Many people access or request therapy services for a variety of reasons which may include treating a mental health disorder, such as anxiety or depression, managing or regulating emotions, coping with grief, working through difficult interpersonal or relationship problems, developing better social skills, enhancing communication skills, and discovering more about themselves.

Therapy at Our Clinic

At Dr. Sharon Arnold and Associates, we have clinicians who are trained to provide individual therapy for children, adolescents, and adults, as well as relationship and marriage counselling. Our clinicians have experience working with a variety of individuals, including those with anxiety disorders (e.g., generalized anxiety, social anxiety, separation anxiety, phobias), mood disorders (e.g., depression), obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), eating disorders, behavioural challenges, perfectionism, and relationship problems. We are a neurodiversity-affirming clinic and have expertise in addressing mental health concerns among individuals with developmental differences, such as autism and ADHD. Our team of therapists includes Registered Psychologists, Registered Clinical Counsellors, and Practicum Students who are supervised by Registered Psychologists.

How Do I Choose a Clinician?

When you contact our clinic, we would be happy to match you with a clinician who specializes in your specific concerns or goals. You can also request a specific clinician if you wish. If we are not the right fit, we are happy to provide referrals to another clinic. Therapy begins with a few initial “get to know you” sessions. Clinicians collaborate with you and your loved ones to develop goals and to jointly develop a treatment plan. Depending on your specific needs and goals, services may last for 8 sessions or more. At our clinic, clinicians work with their clients to determine an individualized schedule and timeframe for sessions. Parents are generally involved in child or adolescent therapy; however, this is negotiated with you, and is based on your child’s needs.

What Type of Therapy Can I Expect?

We are proud to say that all our clinicians are trained in evidence-based treatment. This means that the therapies they provide have research support.  We use a variety of treatment modalities including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Narrative Therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Social Skills Training, and Collaborative Problem Solving.

To love ourselves and support each other in the process of becoming real is perhaps the greatest single act of daring greatly.
